On October 1, 2005, USAID selected ECSU as one of six (6) Minority Serving Institutions (MSI’s) to develop textbooks and learning materials for a sub-Saharan country in Africa. The Textbooks and Learning Materials Program (TLMP) at ECSU will assist in developing educational materials for the West African country of Senegal. Each of the six (6) grant awards were made by USAID directly to the MSI. The award is a Cooperative Agreement (CA) which means that USAID in Washington, DC will have substantial involvement by Mr. Freeman Daniels, the CTO Officer, the USAID Liaison between ECSU and USAID in Washington. Dr. Sarah Moten heads the USAID African Education Bureau which manages President Bush’s African Education Initiative (AEI) of which the TLM Program is only one component. The Leadership Team that will be responsible for implementing this award at ECSU consists of: Dr. Johnny L. Houston, Program Director and Dr. Abdou M. Sene, Program Coordinator; with assistance from ECSU faculty members: Dr. Margery Coulson-Clark and other TLM Program faculty, staff, associates and Global Leadership Academy students.
